Tan Care
Prep & Aftercare
- Exfoliate: Thoroughly exfoliate your skin 12-24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells. Focus on rough areas like elbows, knees, and ankles. Use a gentle, oil-free exfoliator to ensure an even tan. DO NOT USE DOVE. Exfoliator Recommendation: (https://tinyurl.com/BEST-EXFOLIANT)
- Shave or Wax: Complete any hair removal (shaving or waxing) at least 12-24 hours before your tan to allow pores to close and avoid dark spots.
- Avoid Moisturizers and Makeup: On the day of your appointment, avoid using lotions, oils, deodorants, and makeup as they can create a barrier and affect the tan’s development.
- Wear Loose Clothing: Opt for dark, loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops to your appointment to prevent the tan from rubbing off on tight clothes. DO NOT wear any jewelry
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
Initial Rinse: Your initial rinse will be between 3 and 6 hours. Wait the recommended time before showering. Use lukewarm water for the first rinse, avoiding soaps, shampoos, and scrubbing. !!NO DOVE!!
PLEASE REFRAIN FROM WASHING YOUR HAIR FOR 24 HOURS
- Wait for your tan to develop and set. Washing your hair too soon can cause your tan to streak or wash away.
Moisturize Daily: Keep your skin moisturized to prolong the life of your tan. Use a tan-friendly moisturizer to maintain an even fade.
Avoid Excessive Sweating: For the first 24 hours post-tan, avoid activities that cause sweating, like exercise, as this can cause streaking.
Gentle Cleansing: When showering, use a gentle, sulfate-free body wash and pat your skin dry instead of rubbing. NO DOVE.
Chlorine and Saltwater: Minimize exposure to swimming pools, hot tubs, and the ocean, as chlorine and salt can accelerate tan fading. Listen girl, I get it. You’re on vacation! Moisturize daily, stay hydrated, and wear sunblock before hitting the pool! Most most importantly, have fun!!!
Shaving: Wait at least 24-48 hrs. Use a new razor: A sharp razor will cut less into your skin and remove less of the tan. Light strokes. Cetaphil body wash (a little goes a long way)
After 1 week, exfoliate Lightly: As your tan starts to fade, gently exfoliate to ensure an even fade and prepare your skin for your next spray tan.
